The Anglo-Saxons were even more bleak: "Will shall be the sterner, heart the bolder, spirit the greater as our strength lessens." (Tolkien's translation.) May indeed our strength increase in this battle against Trump. But for the worldwide war against fascism, who can say? Only Japan and Australia seem immune among the democracies.

You prefer this to Camus's "il faut imaginer Sisyphus heureux”?:
